Central Road & Infrastructure Fund (CRIF)

Central road fund scheme was introduced in Jammu & Kashmir in the year 2000-01 with the aim to develop and maintain National Highways, State roads (particularly those of economic importance and which provides inter-state connectivity), rural roads, railway under/over bridges etc. Accordingly major district roads/ bridges and other district roads are drawing upon the resources allocated under Central Road & Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for construction/ upgradation.

Broad objectives of the scheme

  • Construction of NH bypasses, potential roads being important from the perspective of declaration of new NH
  • Inter-state roads and roads which are economically important for the state
  • Roads connecting to NHs with particular focus on safety aspects, traffic claiming measures etc
  • Construction of ROB/Rub, bridges etc
  • Construction of bypasses, parallel service roads along National/State highways
  • The road projects shall generally cover at least ten kilometre length.

Design and execution parameters

  • The design of road or bridge shall follow the central Government codes and guidelines
  • Regular project monitoring and quality control checks
  • Establishment of quality assurance system, conduct of independent test and examining of QA documentation to spot non-conformities .
  • Installation of sign boards at both ends of the projects displaying the name of work & other details.

Since the inception of program 293 projects including 60 bridges have been approved with sanction cost of Rs 4300 cr against which Rs.1625 cr has been spent ending March 2020. Presently 97 projects have been completed which includes 24 bridges as well. 11 projects were accomplished during 2019-20. The over view of the programme is under
